BioWin announces expanded role to consolidate Wallonia’s status as a dynamic region for life science innovation

Gosselies, Belgium, March 2nd, 2021 – BioWin, the health cluster of Wallonia, today announced its evolution from an organization focused on collaborative research and innovation project support to one offering a much wider range of services to support the health sector ecosystem in Wallonia.

Founded in 2006 within the framework of the Minister of Economy’s “Marshall Plan” for Wallonia, BioWin brings together all the innovation system players in Wallonia’s life science field, with the goal of stimulating regional economic deployment.

Initially, BioWin’s role was largely focused on the development, selection and monitoring of collaborative research and innovation (R&I) projects involving universities, research centers, academic hospitals and industries.

This role has expanded over time, and today, the cluster is also involved in implementing the sector’s industrial policy, including industrial innovation and research, training, and also support for business growth, with the aim of developing and anchoring skills, knowledge and jobs. To reflect this change, BioWin is also launching a new corporate identity and website.

Today our vibrant ecosystem includes 249 active members, among which there are 10 global leaders, 187 innovative SMEs and 155 Walloon companies.

Sylvie Ponchaut, Managing Director of BioWin commented: “We are very excited to be able to offer these new benefits to our members and further support them in their business endeavors. Our refreshed corporate goals, identity and website very clearly reflect our focal points and the benefits BioWin can offer to companies and institutions at all stages of their development within the Walloon health ecosystem.  The launch of the new website marks the 15-year anniversary of the cluster and comes at the perfect moment.  We’ve updated our brand identity, visuals, imagery and messaging to align with our new strategy which we will carry out in good collaboration with different stakeholders including AWEX, UWE, NCP, the Essenscia federation and other competitiveness clusters.”
